ABOUT MY WORK

I have always painted 'Still Life' because, unlike other genres, it focusses intimately on those objects we choose and use in our everyday lives - objects that we can not only see but touch and rearrange, all within arm's reach. It's a world over which one has complete control, and it offers a wide range of expressive possibilities.

Whereas the traditional 'Still Life' usually expressed feelings of celebration, contentment and tranquillity, I began during the 1980s, to develop 'The Unstill Life' - works full of precarious balance, potential movement, and worrying uncertainty. In them, I have tried to express my response to the contemporary world by painting in a way that poses visual questions and provokes thought.
